Hailee Steinfeld, 16, and Douglas Booth, 21, share their first kiss in a new clip from Carlo Carlei‘s “Romeo and Juliet,” released today by Just Jared. The forthcoming Shakespeare adaptation also stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ed Westwick, Damian Lewis, Paul Giamatti and Lesley Manville.
Even if you haven’t read this English lit classic in school, it’s hard not to be aware of the iconic story of two star-crossed lovers from rival families that embark on a tragic affair. In this latest clip, Romeo (Booth) and Juliet (Steinfeld) are alone together in a room and away from the judgement of their disapproving families. Before locking lips with his forbidden lover, Romeo utters a couple lines in his English accent that would make anyone swoon. Their romantic moment, however, is suddenly interrupted by the presence of a startled nurse (Manville). Although some may find the scene corny with its Disney music background, when you’ve got an ex-Burberry model playing Romeo, can you really fault Steinfeld’s starry-eyed expression?
If this clips proves anything, it’s that there’s definitely some chemistry between the two young actors. But we’ll have to wait until October 11 when “Romeo and Juliet” arrives in theaters to see if that is enough to carry an entire film. Check out the clip below and let us know what you think!
